How to align a composition along a path

My project consists of 2 spinning movie reels and a filmstrip composition with animated frames. I intend to align the filmstrip along a predefined path now, as if it loops between the movie reels. The common practice to copy the shape path and paste it onto the layer's position property displaces the filmstrip composition as a whole, but does not align it. Anyone has an idea how to proceed?

    Can you adjust the anchor point on the film strip?

    Best way:

    • Pre-comp the filmstrip (long + straight)

    • Draw the loop path with a Shape Layer

    • Apply Bezier Warp or CC Bend It to the filmstrip

    • Match the warp handles to the path → done

    Quick hack (surprisingly solid):

    • Use a Text Layer on a Path

    • Paste your path into Text → Path Options

    • Use the filmstrip as an Alpha Matte

    • Animate Offset to loop
