How to create line going around rotating sphere in AE?

Hello all, 

I am working with one of the videos from NASA Studio:

And my goal is to create a "growing" line that goes around the equator and the moves with the sphere as it rotates. I was able to do it for the 60th south latitude (3D Tracking - create camera and solid - pre compose the solid, trim path line on a new layer and delete the solid). But for the equatorial area I can't sem to get it right - probably because the change in rotation is bigger? 

Does anyone have an idea?
