hello i wanted to recreate a text similar to this:
https://youtu.be/j4Mqo7N2mOU

i tried rotating it as a 3D text but didn't get the results i wanted
any ideas?
(also how to make it look pixelated?)

thanks for the reply it helped me a lot especially the displacement map
i actually fixed the rotaion problem, you see at first i tought it's just a simple 3D X-rotation but when put into practice the results weren't satisfying.the text in the video rotates in a diffrent angel so i changed the orientations a bit and created a camera with 8.00mm fim size and

2000.00mm focal length and it did the trick!

You need to be more specific as to what didn't exactly work as you wanted it to. That said, since these old animations are in no way at all based on genuine 3D transformations, you may want to try the Transform effect rather than 3D layers. It#s a principle known as SSR (shear, scale, rotate) as used in isometric drawing liek e.g. in Illustrator. The pixelation is just a byproduct of the limited hardware not being able to calculate antialaising. You can easily fake it by applying e.g. a Mosaic effect on an adjustment layer to quantize your results to the pixel grid.

What didn't you like about the 3d rotation? Was the smoothness not working well? You could try playing with the frame rate using posterize time or changing your comp frame rate to get a "2s" look.

As for pixelation effects, CC Mosaic and CC Block load work well for some quick results! Ther's a bit of a scanning effect happening that you could mimic with the displacement map effect. I'd create a solid with horizontal black and white stripes using the fractal noise effect, then changing the X scale to make each stripe fill the screen horizontally, and the Y scale as narrow as feels right for the aesthetic. Then use that layer as your displacement map (precomped first), and turn the vertical displacement to 0, and keep the horizontal displacement low. Last, you could animate the solid or add an expression to make the stripes constantly move vertically to get more of an organic scan that doesn't look static.

These may not be perfect solutions yet, but I hope this gives you a little creative brainstorm!
