Question

How to duplicate a layer AND change the photos in these layers

Hello,

First of all, I am totally new to After Effects.

I have a slideshow in After Effects and in this slideshow there are several layers which show different photos. But 1 layer has photos in a landscape size and the other layer has photos in a portrait size. Now I want all layers to have landscape sizes. So I copied (or duplicated) a layer with a landscape sized photo. But when I change the photo in that layer, the photo in the original layer also changes into that photo. And that is not what I want. I want the photo in the original layer to stay the photo it had.

I hope I can make clear what I want (because English is not my native language).

Anybody who knows how to do this?

You can change the label color for layers individually. It doesn't affect how they work.

Hello Mylenium,
it is not so much the color of the bars, but the behavior.

The project is a slideshow of different photographs. Each purple bar represents an 'action'. When I open such a purple bar I there can find a photo and some more. I there can change the photo into a photo of my own.

But the yellow bar on the timeline is not an 'action'. When I play the timeline the photo in the yellow bar is always visible form the start of the slideshow untill the yellow bar ends. But I want SEO_23 to be the same as all the other SEO's. So that it is a purple 'action' and not a fixed photo (yellow).

You may want to study up how pre-compositions work be reading the online help. You have to duplicate them in the project window to make them independent, not the layer in the timeline.

@Mylenium thank you for your quick reply.

So I have duplicated it in the project window in stead of the timeline.

I have duplicated SEO_2 and renamed it to SEO_23. But when I drag SEO_23 into the "SEO_ALL timeline" I don't get the 'purple' bar but I get 3 'yellow'  bars. How can I add SEO_23 into the SEO_ALL timeline so it is a 'purple' bar just like all the other SEO_'s ?
