How to Get Rid of Bad Reflection In My Video

Hey all,

As a quick back story... I am self-taught for Adobe After Effects and have been using it on and off over the last year. I am proficient in PS and AI and am also self-taught in Premiere Pro but was able to learn that pretty quick. I should also add I am NOT a photographer/filmographer

So far, I can tell that AE has a lot to offer when it comes to video editing, but I am having a hard time finding what the best solution is for my video footage issue.

The company I work for wanted me to get a video of one of our pieces of equipment that has a laser and a small window to look through. The laser won’t run unless the door is closed so I am only able to shoot through this window. When I was filming, I knew that the reflection wasn't good but when I went back in and watched the footage, I found that it is much worse than I thought. I attached a picture of what the footage looks like.

Any AE experts out there that has any advice on how to remove this bad reflection? Or at least improve it? I have thought about re-filming but what the laser is cutting wouldn't match the rest of my footage and would have to complete start over. I am hoping I can try to save it!

Thanks in advance!

Not really, but you can try to extract the reflection using effects like Channel Combiner set to Luminance or similar on a duplicate layer, darken it with a color correction effect and overlay the result with Multiply, Darken, Overlay and similar blending modes. Next time simply invest in a adjustable polarization filter. Saves you all the headache.
