I have a Mac, and the shortcut don't work, it will open something else.
Moving the mouse holding contro/option, will open a panel.
What is the best way?

That's not ideal.

Can you try running After Effects in Safe Mode and see if it works? If it does, resetting the preferences should help. If you don't want to reset the preferences right away, you can change the size from the Brushes panel (Window > Brushes).
