How To KEY Out Green ONLY Half Of The Video - AFTER EFFECTS

Hi there,

I'm attempting to key out some green in my video but I only want HALF or a certain part of the video to be keyed out. There is another element in the original video file that is green, and I would like to keep it there without keying out the video as a whole. I'm currently using key light which is keying out all green in the entire video.

Ways to do this? Thanks!

You need to use masks to protect the section of green you want to keep.  If that section is moving you will need to animate the mask to follow it.

Duplicate the footage with Keylight applied, and turn Keylight off on the duplicate.  Draw a mask around the section of video you want to protect.  Create a keyframe for the mask, then work through your footage and move/reshape the mask as required.  If you think about it overall, you might find you don't need to animate the mask much at all, if the protected green section stays in the same zone, separate to the other green section .
