How to limit the storage size of AE preferences folder?

My AE preferences folder is about 50Gb. a massive file size after just completing one and a half projects. I want to know what in this folder is worth keeping and how to limit the future storage of file in the folder? and perhaps what these saves are? AE is obviously saving on my behalf.

It looks like you inadvertently assigned your AE Cache to the Preferences folder.

I think I'd just start over setting up your preferences. Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Cmd-Opt-Shift Mac) while AE is starting to reset preferences. Then you can do two things: delete everything remaining in preferences except for the actual preferences file, and find a better spot for your cache.
