How to make a dalek extermination effect?

So I was thinking of doing a bloopers reel on a film, and a friend thought what if they added a dalek from doctor who in there as a joke for a cameo, so I was thinking, how could I recreate the Dalek gun extermination effect from the episode resolution on After Effects?

I use the latest version of Adobe After Effects for reference

Somehow my computer can run it on 2 GB of RAM however

Here's the sample of the effect I'm trying to recreate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqFz4BrrLn0&ab_channel=DoctorWho

Invert was the original effect used, but from that footage, looks like they are adding a white solid, masked and feathered to cover the person and then overlaying a 3D skeleton to match their position.  Most importantly, the effect only lasts a tiny amount of time, so you dont spot any issues.  🙂

You mean for the Dalek extermination effect I just need to add a white solid that is placed over the victim that matches up with the shape and feathered, and then maybe make a skeleton appear from a frame by frame drawing to match up with the effect for a few seconds?

You got it.  You could try using a transfer mode like Add or Screen, but it's so quick, you might not need to.

If you haven't already signed up, check out Mixamo for 3D characters: https://www.mixamo.com/#/. Getting the animations into AE is convoluted but possible.
