how to make shapes travel at the same distance from one another from different start and end points? After Effects

I would like 2 separate rectangles to move across my solid behind the rest of my project, this is fine but I cannot seem to get them to travel at the same distance from one another since they need to travel different distances across the project for this effect (from off screen on one end to off screen the opposite end). Help? Thanks

    Parent the smaller rectangle to the larger rectangle.  Animate the larger rectangle on and off the screen.  Done.
