How to rotate 3d layers predictably.?

I'm sure I'm not the only on to come against this issue....

When rotating a 3d object and keyframing it from one rotation to another, it just follows the shortest path.

Can you achieve a rotation 'path' like a motion path and control the path it takes to actually rotate?

Thanks

Correct answer Rick Gerard

Try using rotation values instead of orientation. You will find them in the timeline.

As suggested by Rick, use Rotation, not Orientation.

can you post some screenshots to explain your issue better?

I'm using layer rotation rather than orientation as advised by the other comments and then adding intermediary keyframes to influence the rotation path, so this helps it. Thanks
