How to separate a masked compound path into distinct, editable shapes?

Hey AE Community,

I have a compound path of two squares, and I "drew inside" this compound path to quickly apply a stripe pattern to them at the same time.

Is there a way to unlink the squares but have each of them still retain this pattern?

I would have to see the timeline with the modified properties of the problem layers showing. Press 'uu' and embed a screenshot of the whole thing.

I am guessing you will need to duplicate the stripes, add a couple of groups to the shape layers, and then add Merge Paths.
