How was this made? Repeition trippy spatial effect

Curious if anyone know was this made? I understand the general concept of repetition but can't pinpoint how things are layered/movement direction when trying to duplicate. Don't know original source.

There is only one animation happening, but duplicated, scaled and mirrored. Focus on one cycle and you'll see what is going on: back, down, left - repeat.

All you need is one shape layer (circle), animate in x and y and scale. If you are willing, make it 3D and animate z to skip the scale animation. There is a repeater-preset for shape layers, which could help. Otherwise, duplicate, offset, repeat.

If you are into those pattern animations, give Cavalry a try.

The third party plugin Trapcode Form could be used to recreate this. It allows you to create multiple particle grids and then displace them in 3D.  To accurately recreate your example you'd need multiple iterations, ie two or more Trapcode Form layers, because there are two opposing 3D movements happening simultaneously.

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it.

I am not familiar with cinema4d at this point, only after effects. I thought there might be an easy way to duplicate and tile dots like this, but I guess maybe I just need to take up looking into this program.
