i dont know why this keeps happening i legit got a 3080ti it has 12gb of vram why wont after effects let me use more vram and why is mercury software render so slow

You have used an effect that expands the virtual frame size of a layer beyond the capability of your GPU to handle. If we saw a screenshot with the modified properties of the problem layer revealed, we could probably help you figure out what is going on and how to solve it. Grow Bounds and CC Rep Tile are two of the effects that can cause this problem. There are workarounds for both of these that I use often.
