Hi Everyone,

I have this huge confusion on how to divide my SSDs for After effects. Hope someone will help me with their expertise.

Basically, I am using windows PC, I have two internal SSDs - 1 TB NVMe & 1 TB SATA. Obviously, Windows & Applications run on NVMe. Right now, I am having project files (includes AE, Footage, Assets etc.) on SATA and Cache on NVMe (previously, I used to keep both cache and project files on SATA).

Now, I need to know whether it is the ideal way to use or is there better way. Because sometime my footage will be 2-5 GB of size and then should I need to keep it on NVMe along with cache or should I keep them on SATA along with project files? Should I do it the opposite way?

So, I am looking to find the best way to manage the files and use the advantage I have with two seperate internal SSDs.

Hope I get some amazing insights on this topic.

Thanks to all!

Maneesh

Hi Maneesh,

Thanks for writing in. In my opinion, you should put the project/media files and cache in the fastest drive available. For you, it's your SSD. In case you don't have space left in the SSD then keep the project and media files in the SATA and cache on SSD as you're doing already.

Hope it helps. Feel free to reach out if there are any other questions.

Thanks,
Nishu

So, I heard that it's always better to keep project files and cache on seperate SSDs and it will improve the performance. So is it okay to keep both on the same SSD?
