I want to remove a portion of the timeline from all layers

I have nearly finished a logo animation. At one point, I've decided that the animation is too long so I want to cut it down. I know how to trim layers from each end, but how can I remove a second or two from the middle of the animation on all layers?

I'm using AfterEffects CC 15.0.1 on MacBook High Sierra 10.13.4. The layers were imported from an Illustrator .ai file except one layer created in A.E.

    As an old time flash user I totally get why this is a massive thing to be able to do, and while you can't just position the playhead and hit shift F5 like the good old days, there is a way to achieve the same effect. First select a 'work area' by dragging the blue brackets under the time indicator above the timeline - this will be the area you want to cut, then select the layers that you want to effect (in this case that's probably all of them), then go to 'edit' and select 'extract work area'. This seems to be the after effects analogue of shift F5. Hope this helps.

      AE's Edit Menu has two Commands which are viable - Lift Work Area and extract Work Area. To use these Commands, you define a timespan, using the Work Area, that you want removed from the Timeline PLUS you select the layer(s) you want to be affected.

      I suggest you make a backup of the Comp, in the Project Panel before trying both, to see which works for you.
