Images are pixelated in AE

Hello everyone!

When I import an AI file to After Effects it´s beeing pixelated, even when I click on the continuously Rasterize option.
I already set Magnification and Resolution to full and make a render test. But it's still pixelated.
In Illustrator the lines are perfect, even when I scale to 6000%, like every vector file. But exporting and importing in AE, it´s not working.

All started with one file in project, wich I transformed a PSD file to make a trace in Illustrator and even using expand option it never works. I've imagined that could be something related to some unsuccessfull transformation in a file from PSD to AI. Then I started to try with a only layer project in AI (a ball) to test. And now, every file faces the same issue.

I wonder if there´s a new preset or setup in new versions of AI and AE that I have to change, apply or something like that, but I have no idea what could it be.

You are looking at the pixels magnified 400%. Video is pixels and if you zoom in on the pixels you will see them. You can get the same preview in Illustrator if you turn on Pixel Preview in the View menu. When critically creating vector graphics for a video I always position the graphics in their hero position, make sure snap to pixel is turned on, and check the illustrations with Pixel preview turned on so I don't get fouled up horizontal and vertical edges.

 

So, long story short, there is nothing wrong. You don't have a problem. You just have the wrong expectations.

In addition to Ricks answer (which is 100% correct), the advantage of using vectors in AE is, that you can animate the scale of your artwork with nearly no limits. If you want a close up, activate CR and crank scale the up.

 

The viewer, however, will always show a rasterized image.
