Question

Import Illustrator file to Cinema 4D Lite (latest version)

I'm running After Effects v22.5 with Cinema 4D Lite R25.  When I try to import an Illustrator v26.4.1 file into Cinema 4D Lite, I get an "Unknown file format" message and am unsuccessful.

Any solutions?  Thanks

I thought R25 was the latest version as well, I had that problem as well with R25 - turns out they modified the AI import for R25 and it only worked for the full C4D product my Maxon App indicated there was an update to R26 & when I upgraded I was able to import an AI file (updated on 1st Sept 2022) as described in the getting started tutorial. I did save it as a AI 8 file but I will try other versions just to see if newer versions work now as well.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply.  Where did you find the update to R26 for C4D Lite?  The only R26 version I can find seems to be for the full product with no mention of Lite.

Sorry for the delay in answering I just found your reply, I opened up my Licencing app via the button on the top of C4D app Window it said there was an upgrade available to R26 when it started it looked like I was getting the full product so I expected to have to go thru a activation process that rolled it back to Lite but it seemed to know that it was an upgrade to Lite as when I went searching there was a new entry in my Maxon list for R26 Lite & that is definitly what started when accessed

  Hope that helps

You need to export the file as AI 88 or EPS. All that C4D cares for are the contours, anyway.

Thanks.  I did export the file as AI 88 and got the  "Unknown file format" message.  I'll try exporting as EPS.
