Imported art not retaining proper height to width ratio

Imported art not retaining proper height to width ratio.

I am new to AE and just experimenting.

I am importing a logo to play around with transformations, it comes in properly scaled and looks good in the project window, when I drag to the composition it becomes distorted. When I look at the properties of the logo in the timeline it says 100% x 100% but I know it is incorrect - what am i missing? I'm wondering if it has to do with the composition settings.

    check your composition settings. you should work from within the square pixel presets. for example, use HDTV and make sure you use square pixels. if that does not work, show some screenshots.
