Question

Imported file from Adobe Illustrator has white background on each layer in After Effects

Making an Iphone unlock animation for my school project and I used Adobe Illustrator to make each of the assets. Each of the assets are on separated layers so that it would be easier to animate in After Effects

When I imported the Illustrator files into After Effects, each of the layers don't have transparent background but instead have a white background. Thus the other assets cannot be seen because of the white background blocking them.

When I was importing the Illustrator files I chose Import Kind: Composition and Footage Dimensions: Document Size. My Illustrator files are also PDF compatible. So I don't know what I'm doing wrong when importing the Illustrator file.

I don't know how to describe this problem well, I hope that my photos can explain it more clearly for you

I figured it out. My AI files are on AI Version 30.1 and when I tried to save them in an older version of AI (AI 29.8.4), the layers from the files in AI 29.8.4 had transparent backgrounds hence each of the layers were not blocked by a white background on each layer
Sorry if my explanation is not good but I managed to work it out

Thanks for writing in and glad that you could find a workaround. It happens when the Artboard's background color is set to White instead of Transparent (default). If you select the Artboard tool and change the Fill to Transparent in the Properties panel, it should fix it.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,
