Importing Ai objects with clipping masks into After Effects

Overlord supports limited features when converting Illustrator shapes to vector objects for After Effects. It's a little more capable than converting a Vector layer to a Shape layer. 

The only way I know of to bring everything in an Illustrator file into After Effects with paths you can animate is to move the artwork through Adobe XD. Here's the workflow. Save your Illustrator file. Open Adobe XD and start a new document. None of the settings matter. You just need a new document. Then, use the XD file menu to Import an Illustrator file; before doing anything else, use the XD file menu to Export to After Effects. After Effects will open, or start a new project if it is open, with everything in your AI file on layers or pre-comps, with the paths and just about every effect in place. It will take you about 30 seconds. Everything will be editable, and only a few of the very new features in Illustrator will have some minor problems as shape layers in After Effects.
