Importing Complex SVG into After Effects (Shape Layer)

Hi everybody,

I'm tasked with making a maze. So I have this complex SVG....object. I found a page that said just copy/paste from Illustrator to an arbitrary shape layer. They were it. it works, but....For this operation the complexity created a slew of masks insteadof lines/shapes and the stroke won't adhere (attached).

So...for something like this, what would be a solid approach to get this vector grid into after effects as a massive stroke object?
