Importing from Illustrator to AE Strange Issue

I am recreating a simple animation that I had successfully done the day before (I changed the size of the animation and did some small graphic edits).

As I had done previously I imported 3 separate AI files. The first two were imported as expected. When importing the third file AE seems to skip show the dialog box where you can see the parameters of the import file (Footage or Composition etc) and import the file as a piece of footage and not as an AI file. I've tried this in AE 23 and the new AE beta with the same results. I've included a screencap of what is occurring.
