Question

Importing Photoshop Layers With Edits

I have 10 layers in photoshop which all have the same curves and hue layers applied to all. So those curves/hue layers are at the top of the layers.

But when I import them into AE, those curves/hue layers effects are not applied. How do I apply the curves/hues effects to those layers when imported into AE?

Thanks.

I think that you’re on the right track. You may want to ask that question in the Photoshop forum. Then bring the merged layers in to AE.

Photoshop effects are not applied when you import layered files as compositions. If you import as a PSD sequence then the effects should be applied because there will only be one merged layer, but you will need a sequence, a bunch of sequentially named PSD files.

If you want to import a layered PSD file as a composition and sequence the layers to make a movie and you have applied Curves and you are using compatible versions of After Effects the adjustment layer with curves applied will come into After effects on top of the other layers. You'll have to trim all the layers except the adjustment layer to the length of time you want for each layer to be visible (frame rate) and then sequence the layers. If the layers extend beyond the comp duration you'll have to adjust the composition settings and extend the adjustment layer.

If the Curves adjustment layer does not come in with the curves effect you'll have to add your own adjustment layer. If you are importing images as a sequence you'll have to add your own adjustment layer or apply Curves to the movie that is created when you import an image sequence as a movie.

If none of this makes sense to you it is time to open up the user guide and do some studying. Just type importing Photoshop files into the Search Help field in the very top right corner of AE and learn how to prepare and import PSD files for video.

Maybe try having a curves/hue layer only visible (eye icon in the layers panel)  and then try merging visible (In Photoshop?) I think you may want to apply the effects to the Photoshop layers before bringing them in to After Effects. (If I am understanding your question.) Hope this helps. Good luck!

The adjustment layer applies to all images (layers of a face in motion), and I currently I have just 1 layer with the adjustments as the top layer. How do I merge the adjustment layer for each layer of the face?

Sorry, but I have NO CLUE what you're talking about.

Will try to be more explicit.

In Photoshop, you can add adjustment layers to a base image to edit said image. I actually have a sequence of images of a face. I want to apply the same curve adjustment layer to the entire sequence of face images (layers). So they are all brightened by the same amount.

In AE, I import this sequence of images via the Photoshop PSD file. So all the face images are in AE. However, the curve adjustment layer that brightens them is not applied. So my question is, how do I import those 10 face images with the curve adjustment layer applied to all?

    Hope that is clearer.
