Investing in components for after effects

This will be the last time i ask this question because i've asked a lot but, I have a lot of money saved up specifically for AE and it's 3d extentsion software Cinema 4d alongside photoshop and illustrator. I'm not sure whether to buy a laptop suited for AE or upgrade my pc due to the fact i'm not sure what exactly needs fixing on my computer. So i'm coming here looking for recommendations, not specifically what to purchase but more of what needs purchasing.

This is how AE runs on average for my PC and the gp kinda spikes between 100% and 0% rapidly for some reason. I have a gtx 1650, an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400 CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz, annd 16gb of ram (most of which i optimized to be used for AE despite what the image shows). My main problem with my current work is preview times and the fact that whenever i try to change the position or edit and effects of a layer it is extra slow, takes ages to show me the result and just lags even when just scaling the value. So far i have ran into no issues rendering in 3d but i'm also curious if i'm gonna have to get a high end graphics card for it. I am pretty much just paranoid about what's worth it and what isn't so it'd be nice to gain some help if i could.

Both 3d apps and After Effects are very CPU and RAM intensive.

I'd say your GPU is fine.

CPU and RAM is where you want to spend your money

And fast SSD drives for caching

Personally, I don't think a laptop is going to do you well unless you get the absolute best ones. I'm guessing your PC is a desktop PC, so I would upgrade to a better CPU, since a better gpu is out of question. I've got a Ryzen 5 5600x that works pretty well (I haven't had any experience with Intel chips). The prices have dropped since I got mine so you can probably go for a 5800x or even a 5900x. If you have a Micro Center near your location, definitely check out there. They might have some decent GPUs, anything thats an RTX card. I also have 32GB of RAM which is really useful, some renders are really memory heavy and need a lot of it so 32 or more is recommended, but 16 still is usually be enough.

You CAN get a higher end GPU, but if you get a really good CPU it might just be better for cheaper, if you don't use GPU Acceleration.
