Is there a limit to how many 3d layers after effects can handle?

My goal is to spread the design below in 3d space. Importing it as an ai composition causes after effects to freeze as it's way too many layers.

I am willing to recreate it as seperate shape layers in after effects but I don't want it to crash when I'm almost done...

Before I start, is there a limit to haw many 3d layer after effects can handle, or is there some other way

how I can accomplish this?
