Is this twisting circle sphere possible in After Effects?

It looks like a simple line that is twisted and then wrapped aound a sphere. But I have no idea wherer to start  – should I start with a circle and twist that? Or start with a simple line, twist that and then wrap around a sphere? https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/746753181962983180/
