AE 2025

Windows

Hello, I experienced a few issues while creating an animation. Expressions wouldn’t work, animation I created disappeared on 4 occasions and had to be created again. Once I finally completed a task that should have taken my 4 hours, but was all day, I am not able to render in either Media Encoder of the Render Que in AE 2024 won't open the file. I see nothing on the forum, bit Co-Plot let me know that there are issues. I thought it was my laptop. all my drives are up to date, and I regularly clear cache.  Do we know if these issues will be fixed? I am thinking of starting over in AE 2024, which makes me want to cry.

Hey! Is anyone experiencing the cloud in the bottom right corner and the padlock constantly flashing with this update? Is there any way to stop this happening?

Hello @Rosa25914448abcu,

I am going to move your question to a new post, as we will be opening a bug ticket to track this issue. Thanks for posting and recording the issue.

Thank you for your reply Jessica.

I was trying to follow this video first and it wasnt working which I found strange, because I followed it when I was really new at AE and I was able to do it. I then was relying on ChatGPT and we know it makes mistakes so I hope the codes above are correct.

Here are the expressions:

thisComp.layer("Null 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider")
thisComp.layer("Null 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider") * rotationFactor
[value[0] + thisComp.layer("Null 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider"), value[1]];
thisComp.layer("Null 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider") * 10;
[value[0] + thisComp.layer("Null 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider"), value[1]];
thisComp.layer("Null 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider") * time * 10;
time * effect("Slider Control")("Slider");
thisComp.layer("Null 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider") * time;
time * thisComp.layer("Car Controller").effect("Slider Control")("Slider");
time * effect("Slider Control")("Slider") * 10

As for the disaperaing animation, I dont see how I can capture that. A very large ending animation disapeard that I ha to recreate in my 15 second video and then the body of the car disappeared, but this could have been me and my frustrated state.

This is of the Media Ecoder Render and AE Render

The AE render won't upload, it like a second long.

I started over and will not be using 2025 for awhile.

Hello @The New Dawn,

For the expressions, what was the error you were seeing? It would probably be benificial to rewatch the tutorial as some of these expressions I would expect to work in the context of what the video was demonstrating and others don't make sense. Example, if your project has a null layer named "Null 1" that has a slider control applied to it, your first expression would work. For your second, rotationFactor would have to be switched to a value or defined in the expression.

If you are newer to AE, people sometimes loose their animations when they click on the stop watch expecting to add a keyframe. If the stop watch is blue for a property, you are in a state where there is at least one keyframe. Clicking the stop watch again to make it go grey would remove any keyframes on that property which would require you to reanimate it.

For your export, it looks like you are creating a video based on your workarea. See the bracketted area in this image example:

Which results in the start and end values shown in the render queue when twirling open render settings:

You can adjust the time span by clicking on the blue text to the right of "Render Settings." In my example case that is "Best Settings."
It will show the following dialog where you can adjust the "Time Span" to "Length of Comp" or a custom subsection of your composition.

There is a very strong community for After Effects both here in the forums and in other locations like social media, reddit, etc where people are often more than happy to help people further their work in After Effects. Hope this has helped you a bit today, and happy animating.

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for your response and guidance. I wanted to clarify that the image with the “Null 1” wasn’t a complete representation of everything I tried; it was just one part of the testing process. Additionally, I didn’t just lose a single animation—an entire section disappeared unexpectedly.

I’ve been using After Effects for over a year, and I also have an animated series on YouTube, so I’m familiar with many aspects of AE. However, I am still learning about expressions and how to animate specific elements, like making a car drive.

Regarding the rendering, I attempted to export the project in both After Effects and Media Encoder, but unfortunately, neither method worked.

Lastly, it would be helpful if new versions of the software weren’t labeled as updates. However, I understand that I should have looked closer at the details.

Thanks again for your assistance!

Best,
Dawn

Hello @The New Dawn

Thanks for posting about the issues you are seeing. We would need a bit more information to determine what the issues are.

  1. Expressions: Do you have an example of expressions that should have worked that were not working for you? Could you upload an example project with the issue and either share it via DM or here in this post?
  2. Animation disappearing: you mention it disappeared and had to be recreated. In what way did it disappear?
  3. Rendering to media encorder/render queue - could you create a video recording to demonstrate the issue?
