Issues with audio playback (playback cursor does not move and audio wavs disappear)

I am simply trying to mark beats in an audio track, and everytime I do so, I notice that the playback cursor does not follow the track (stays put) in addition to the audio wav display disappearing. Does anybody know why this happens and how I can fix it? It seems to only work within 5-10 min of opening the software, then it starts glitching out. Thank you.

Purge Memory and Disk Cache using the Edit Menu.

 

If that doesn't help, press Shift + Alt/Option + Ctrl/Cmnd + k to open the Project settings and try a different setting for Video Rendering and Effects.

Make sure that you have an even multiple of 4 GB of ram assigned to other applications and check the Video Preview and Memory and Performace sections in preferences by pressing Alt/Option + Ctrl/Cmnd + ; 

 

If those suggestions do not help, open the Creative Cloud app/All Apps section, click on the three dots to the right of the Open button for After Effects, select Other Versions, and roll back a build, version, or two.
