When I add a couple of position keyframes to a shape, this happens;

Why do I get these additional movements when there are no keyframes?

Thanks!

As Gutterfish said, it's because spatial interpolation is not linear, to fix that select all the keyframes, right-click on one of them, choose keyframe interpolation. In the dialogue box choose "linear" from the spatial interpolation drop-down menu.
There is an easier way by using shortcuts but maybe it's frustrating to you.

You can set the default spatial interpolation to linear in the Preferences > General

I would recommend you actually read the online help sections on the subject.

It has something to do with the the interpolation becoming non-linear.  tangents or something.  i cant tell you how it hapens but i can tell you how to fix it.  Select the first keyframe of the two between which the position is drifting then right click and select Toggle Hold Keyframe
