Label Colors become Greyed Out (Cannot be changed)

Question

I'm on After Effects 2021 (18.4.1) and running into an issue I've ever seen before where sometimes I go to change the label colors of layers and all of the options are greyed out.  I've already changed the label colors of other layers on the same comp.  When I quit and restart I'm able to edit the label colors again, but that's not really a great solve.  Anyone have any ideas?

Without any info on your computer, your project, your settings and so on nobody can tell you much. From cached layers not correctly refreshing to the usual boring excuse of issues with hardware accelerated functions not responding properly I could imagine a million things. More info and ideally screenshots would help a lot.
