Latest version of After Effects won't open

Hey y'all,

After the latest After Effects update, whenever I try to open the program it simply will not open. I double click, and nothing happens. In Task Manager it is listed under Background Processes, but nothing ever happens. Same thing with Media Encoder. Premier Pro works fine, Photoshop too I belive.

Is this a known bug for the latest update? I really need to get to work.

Thanks!

Hi,

Found the problem. It was the antivirus causing the issue. Once removed After effects started working again. Thanks for replying back.

Hi, I'm encountering the same issue too after updating. Appears in the task manager with no CPU usage. Ending the task and opening it again sometimes work sometimes doesn't.

Things we've tried:

  • uninstall and reinstall
  • reset preferences
  • disabled firewall
  • Able to open in safe mode but closing and opening again gives the same issue

Can't downgrade to 2024, my team works with 2025 files. Any suggestions on how to fix?

Could you let us know your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)? If you're on Windows, does restarting the machine help?

Thanks,
Nishu

Sorry to hear about the issue, Keren.

I am not aware of any bug related to a similar issue. Could you let us know your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, SO version)? If you're on Windows, try restarting your computer and running After Effects as admin (right-click its icon and select Run as administrator). Also, try the steps in the following article: https://adobe.ly/4gKYNXG

Let us know. Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.

Thanks,
