Layer Panel won't show anything

I double click on a layer in the timeline to see it in the Layer Panel, the panel then opens but it doesn`t show anything. I need to do some rotoscopy with the brush. 

 

Please help.

There are preferences that change the behavior of a double-click. I would reset the preferences or right-click on any layer and select Open>Layer or use the Layer menu to Open Layer.
