Question

Layered Composition from a PSD File with shapes CRASHES AE2019

Good day ladies and gentlemen!

I'm experiencing AE crashes whenever I'm importing PSD files with shape layers inside of them and converting them into a layered composition in the timeline. Does anybody else here experience the same thing?

I have created 2 separate file of the same image. One made out of layers of shapes from Photoshop and another on which those shape layers are rasterized. I then imported them into AE.

Scenario 01: When I added the PSD file with rasterized layers (all layers) into the timeline and converted it into a layered composition everything seems to work fine. I went inside the composition, scrubbed the time for preview. Everything works great.

Scenario 02: When I added the PSD file with shape layers (all layers) into the timeline and converted it into a layered composition, After Effects CRASHES! This also happened even if the PSD file I used has both rasterized layers and shape layers in it.

I wonder if anyone can solve this.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Sorry to hear that After Effects is crashing for you while working with layered PSD files. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue and breaking it down. That really helps.

What kind of a computer and OS do you have?

I tested this workflow on an iMac (macOS Mojave 10.14.1) using Photoshop CC 2019 and After Effects CC 2019 but didn't get any crash while importing the PSD as a layered composition.

Are you able to replicate this with any other PSD files?

Let us know.

Thanks,

Rameez

Hi Rameez,

Thank you for responding on this.

I'm using Windows 10 Hime Single Language Build 1809

Every PSD file with shapes in these layers actually crashes AE. But if the the layers are rasterized, everything was okay.

I'm not really sure how all this happens. I also tried disabling all plugins and all scripts.

Is there anyone else you know that have this?

Thanks,

Dan

Let me test this on a Windows 10 machine and get back with an update.
