Question

layers position vs keyframe position

Hi,

I am super confused about something. Confucius says “The man who asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life.”  So I dare to post it.( facepalm)

What is the difference, between

When I stack layers in AE but dnt move keyframes  vs when I change or stack the key frame positions but don’t move layers.

I tried both, but I see no differences.

Am I seeing right or making a huge mistake in understanding?

Thank you

Keyframes are time-based, and they are tied to the in-point of the layer. They tell a property when to do something. Drag your layer so that the layer in-point is at 1 second. Move the CTI down the timeline to two seconds and set your first Position keyframe. Then move the CTI (current time indicator) down the timeline to 3-seconds, click on the layer in the Composition panel, or change the position values in the timeline by entering new numbers or click-drag to move the layer.

The layer will become visible at 1 second and change position between 2 and 3 seconds.

Now grab the layer in the timeline and drag it to the right. Notice the keyframes and the layer in and out point move.

Changing the frame rate of a Composition will not change the length of the composition or the speed of playback. If you change the composition frame rate, the timing of the keyframes will remain the same when measured in minutes, seconds, and fractions of a second, but the frame number will change. Lots of people get confused by that.

I hope this helps.

Mmm, your question is not clear. First what do you want to achieve? Maybe share a screen shot of the two situations?

Hi,

Kindly check these two  GIFs. In one I stancked layer to get the line animation (here, I didnt move the keyframes) , In another one I moved the keyframe positions but not the layer. Two are giving me same result.
