Light sweep in AE cc2018

Can't get a simple light sweep to work on some text. When I Select generate - light sweep nothing happens, none of the settings do anything?

I have used this effect many times in the past with older AE versions

What are the position coordinates of the Light Sweep Center property?

Also, what color is the artwork that it’s being applied to?

It doesn't matter what coordinates I use there is no light present to maneuver. The text colour I am using to create he effect on is white.
