Line graph animation

Hi

How is this effect created? Trim Path for the animation itself, but zoom in on the years while still showing the entire graph? The graph appears about 56 sec into the video. How the Job Market Is Leaving New Graduates Behind - The New York Times

I’m assuming that the spreading of the graph is from it’s original program and it wasn’t created in After Effects.

Okay, I was hoping it would be possible to create the effect in AE. I’m new to the program, so I’m not fully familiar with it yet. Thank you very much for your reply.

I think I’d do this with the full line sketched out, and use trim paths to draw it on, and then keyframe the width scale of the line so that it shrinks. And scaling on the axis can be linked to the keyframed animation. Dragging over the labels and repositioning the dot might be a little more time consuming, but for the dot, you could probably just link it’s width to expand as the line’s width shrinks with a linear expression. Nothing too taxing really.
