MAC OS 10.10 won't run AE CC

Hello! I've got an ooooold macbook pro that is still kickin' and I'd like to instal a version of AE that is compatible with OS 10.10. I can't update the OS, it's the latest OS that the computer will run. AE CC won't run on 10.10. Any suggestions? I've been in touch with Adobe but they are giving me the run around (i.e buy a new computer).  My son got a green screen for Christmas and we wanted to play around with keying and compositing, nothing too crazy just basic keying and a few comps. Please help me make his dream of flying through space become a reality, lol!

u can get a cracl version of 2014 cc on a old mackbook 

on getintomypc.com

it sounds kinda sus but its not

There is no legal option for purchasing Adobe CC2014.

 

CC2014 will run under macOS 10.13 if it was already installed (that is to say that it was never uninstalled) with an active Createive Cloud subscirption.  If upgrading macOS from 10.13, any CC2014 applicatons should be uninstalled prior to the macOS upgrade as the uninstallers will not run under macOS 10.15 or higher.

How old is the Mac?  I'm 90% sure that if it'll run macOS 10.10 Yosemite that it'll run macOS 10.13 High Sierra.  Or at least, if it's 2009 or newer you should be good for 10.13.

 

If staying with 10.10, you'd probably want any version of After Effects from CS6 to CC2014; however, as I'm sure that you've noticed those versions are no longer available with an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.

 

After Effects CS6 is the last version to be sold under the old software retail license.  You might find a used intaller DVD and serial number.  Back then it was the Adobe Application Manager application that authenticated your license and I'm not sure that those servers are running any longer.  I never ran it without authenticating it, so I couldn't tell you what happens if you can't do that step.

 

If you want to preserve the macOS 10.10 startup disk, it's pretty easy to install another version of macOS on a different drive.  If your Mac is as old as I think it is, an external FireWire drive would work well for this.

 

It may also be worth mentioning that you can run After Effects 2020 on your computer and on your son's computer with your Creative Cloud subscription (you can install it on as many machines as you want, but only two can be active at the same time).

Hey Warren! Thanks! This is really helpful info. I was told that 10.10 Yosemite was the last OS I could run on it, but maybe not! It's mid 2009, 17" Macbook Pro , 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4G ram... But yeah, I hear you about the Adobe Application manager... You mention that ''you can run After Effects 2020 on your computer and on your son's computer with your Creative Cloud subscription''  I do have a subscription and I'd be happy to pay for it, but when I tried the trial version it said I needed to update to OS 11... Are you familiar with everymac.com?  I just used that to double-check what I was remembering...


"Mid-2009" came with OS X 10.5.7 "Leopard" and can install up to OS X 10.11.x "El Capitan".

 

So, yes, you'll have to get to 10.11 and, unfortunately, that's as high as you can go.

The 17-inch MacBook Pro was an amazing machine (I have the 2008).

Sorry MarielleQ, this is just not possible. Most other applications, even the free ones, are looking for 10.12 or better. Very sorry about that.
