Question

Major differences in Encoder render times vs After Effects render times

Has anyone expierenced this?  I'm rendering a 3 minute, quite simple motion graphic piece, no major process heavy effects applied. If I try to render with encoder using H264, estimated time is 10 hours v rendering to ProRes straight from AE is 1 hour. I'm using the right renderer in encoder. I've never had these issues before rendering to H264, nothing near the discrepancy here.

Hi John5CF0,

That's not ideal. Sorry for your issue.

What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS)? What's the version of After Effects and Media Encoder you're using? Also, can you try disabling Multi-Frame rendering in After Effects Preferences > Memory & Performance and see if that reduces the export time in Media Encoder?

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu

This is a known issue/ bug, but no solution or explanation has surfaced yet. For the time being stick with rendering directly from AE and then encode the H.264 file in a separate pass in AME, even if it's a bit inconvenient and adds an extra step.
