Match Framing With Mesh Warp

This happens all the time. Client gives you multiple plates that are all supposed to match - but some ding dong bumped the camera so all the plates are slightly off from each other. You need to match the frames so the plates can be composited together. The only way I know how to fix inconsistent plates is to choose a master and then manually mesh warp the other plates to match. But the frames themselves are very similar. Maybe the exposure is different or the objects are missing (that's the point of plates)! It seems to me that there's is enough data to automatically match or align the plates. Pick your regions and then let the warping happen.

Doing a little search I found a tool called Re:Flex for AE which has a little tool in their kit that auto-aligns and then smart blends two images - but it seems to composite them on top of each other. This is close to what we need, but not quite right.

Is there a tool, a script, a plugin out there that does that? Auto warp match or align frame or something?

A similar toolset could also create photo-merge input maps for footage which I've been trying to find for years.
