After Effects warning: memory inefficiency due to 2 unbalanced layer checkouts

This is what I get quite often now when AE goes wonky on me. Symptoms include general sluggishness and refusal to render changes in the composition panel. Is this just the typical AE bs that never gets fixed or is there maybe something wrong with my memory?

Did you tried purging Ae from All Memory and Disk Cache?

Quite often. 256GB is my cache size.

Having the same issue, maybe once a day pre-rendering will just stop working (render progress bar will behave normally, but no playback at all), and when I restart AE on shutdown I get that message, highest number I've seen was this morning with 128 unbalanced layer checkouts. I've been pretty unimpressed with 2019 so far.

Impossible to know anything. You have not offered up any system info and so on. While AE is buggy as heck and seems to go from bad to worse with every new release, the conditions under which those issues manifest themselves are strictly dependent on the surroundings.
