Question

Mocha ae trouble

I am trying to motion track a beverage can in a 6 second stock video and I intend to put my 2D label on it, I have tried Mocha AE, geotracker but I have failed.

I am getting frustrated in Mocha because I set the spline nicely, manually set the planar surface, export the data, apply it to the intended 2D graphic and for a start the graphic is far off from where it should be (I did make the graphic the same size of the comp before applying mocha data), even if I fiddle around with corner pin position, the outcome is so shaky, I have watched so many tutorials, please help

Mocha's standard tracking tools performs planar tracking - a flat surface. Unless the non-planar tracking object is sufficiently distant such that it looks and moves flat, relative to the camera, you will have to use its PowerMesh tool which is part of its Pro Product and not available in the bundled-with-AE version.

Hey there Palak,

Thanks for the post. It sounds like you are having trouble motion tracking an object in Mocha AE. I hope the team or a community member will drop by soon to help. Do you have a sample or screenshot of the clip, so we can see what you're working with? More info about your system and the media would also help. I do help we can assist you here. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for your response.

I am attaching a few screenshots if that helps you understand my trouble.

This is a basic screen recording of my stock video on which i have successfully applied mocha corner pins but when i export those to my 2d label, its far off from where it should be and if i apply cc cylinder to curve it for the can, the outcome is not what I expected!

I hope you can suggest me something!

Thanks

If the shot you are trying to track is this one: https://stock.adobe.com/video/thirst-quencher-at-a-concert-a-sleek-metallic-beverage-can-stands-amidst-a-vibrant-concert-scene-a-symbol-of-refreshment-amidst-the-electric-atmosphere-of-music-and-celebration/1679335106

I think Mocha AE is the wrong tool. A simple mesh warp, or exporting a frame to Photoshop and using the tools there to attach the label, would be your best solution.

If that is not the shot you are tracking, you will have to pre-compose the layer with the label, then stretch the label in the pre-comp to fit the frame of the Pre-comp (same as the original comp). Then, when you apply Corner Pin tracking to the pre-comp in the main comp and add Power Pin, the corners of your label will fit the four corners you tracked. It will then take something like Mesh Warp to bend the label to fit the can's curvature.

Maybe this old tutorial I did on Mocha's Corner Prin tracking will give you some ideas:
