More problems with Echo

Question

Hi all,

Simply, I'm trying to get this effect to apply itself to this car I have rotating in a circle. I've turned the photoshop file into a precomp (per instruction last time I asked this) and it's not working again. What am I missing here? As you can see in the photo I've set it to 1 rotation, it's a quarter of the way through the animation and there's no echo.

Help? Thank you!

I would give that tutorial a D because the author fails to explain that the echo effect works on pixels that are moving in the layer. The author also fails to explain that Shape layers and Text layers are vectors that have to be turned into pixels to be seen. This means if you animate the transform properties of a vector layer the pixels are generated after the layer moves so Echo will work on a vector layer with position, rotation, and/or scale changes without pre-composing, but if you want to use Echo on an image, you have to precompose the animation before you apply echo.

Also, in the future, please embed your screenshots using the toolbar or drag them to the reply field so we can see them. The drag and drop here icon at the bottom of this form is pretty useless.

Nothing wrong. You simply misunderstand how the effect works. It doesn't generate a "trail", it accumulates buffers. Hence the rotation will have to be done inside a pre-comp and the effect applied to that layer in the parent comp.
