Question

More than 4 hours to render 1 minute after effects project

Hello, I recently updated After Effects to version 23.0.0

I'm trying to render a 1-minute, 10 seconds After Effects project in a Macbook Air M1, 8GB ram, 8 Cores, 512GB SSD. When I click to render the project, it says it will take around 2 hours. One and a half hours later, the remaining time says two and a half hours more. My main concern is: Is this normal? Because rendering a one-minute project in 4 hours seems a lot to me. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I'm not sure. Can you give me any tips to set up my After Effects for better performance?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Hi JOSE LUIS24941597rdj0,

You can turn on the Composition Profiler to find out which layers and effects are taking longer to render. Click the little snail in the lower left of the Timeline Panel to turn on this column.

Cheers,

Jason

Hi JOSE LUIS24941597rdj0,

Thanks for reporting this.

Do you mind sharing some details about your project? Which effects did you use? Are there any media files? If so, what's the frame size and format/codec? What are your export settings? Also, are you exporting using Media Encoder or After Effects render queue?

Let us know, we're here to help.

Thanks,

Nishu

This is a known issue which is under investigation. Render a ProRes file directly from AE, encode it later in a separate pass. Also be aware that you are not meeting the minimum requirements for RAM, so there will always some performance loss. In addition of course check your cache settings, turn off multiframe rendering and so on.
