Morphing a flat image into a sphere and back again

I'm hoping to achieve an effect where I morph a world map in my video into a 3D globe and then spread back out into a flat map again.

I can't seem to find anything in the CC Sphere effect to be able to do that so I wonder if there's any other way I can achieve this effect.
