When I select either motion tracker or stabilize motion from the tracker panel while my target layer is selected, the new layer is blank. Am I doing something wrong?

After Effects 2020 (Version 17)

Mac OS X Catalina (Version 10.15)

Are you new to AE? Are you using the Motion Tracking workspace? I'm not running Catalina yet because there are just too many apps and 3rd party effects that are not 100% 64bit but if you select the Motion Tracking workspace and make sure that the Source is selected you should see the appropriate footage in the Layer panel. The layer must be video footage, an image sequence, or a nested comp.

Thanks Rick, changing the workspace to motion tracking did the trick. Odd though, because yesterday I tried enabling MT from the default workspace with both the target layer and motion source selected (following a tutorial) and the resulting window was as I posted in the screenshot (empty). Today it seems to work just fine from both.
