Motion Tracking from a dvr source

Can we use motion tracing on the video from a dvr. Can we use the programme if the video passed indicated bounderies.

The aim is to control the movement of a system. The movement or change in the system will be controlled by a video camera. I assume that we draw artificial boundries in the programme. When the system passes this boundries programe will give a signal that indicates the boundries are passed. When the system returns normal position then signal stops.

There can be 2 - 3 zones on 1 video source.
