Question

Multiframe Rendering in the preview is completely broken feature!

Need to start by mentioning that I'm working in After Effects 2022 from the very first day it becomes available. I was so excited about the new features, I was waiting for them for years and years. But now I see that it does not work properly - at least in preview mode. What I see all the time is when MFR is ON and my preview has some precache areas (with a green line on top) I just can't play this area in real-time, I hit 'play', and it starts to render something even if I'm on the precached area. Ok, I can even start the preview with no cash from the very beginning, it will precache all the timeline (waiting some time) and continue playing this in real-time, then I'm pressing 'pause', then 'play' and what???!!! it starts to calculate something (but the green line is there on all the timeline), what are you calculating? Ok, going to preferences, switch OFF MFR (the green cashed full timeline is still there and it's logical), I'm pressing 'play' and it plays realtime every time, no matter what I do it works as it supposes to work - if I have precached area it plays it realtime but only when MFR is OFF. Adobe where the MFR? Does it exist in preview mode? Or it is just a nice info scam? What's wrong with cash using MFR? By the way, in render mode (rendering final video) MFR works with no problems, and improvement in render times is very good. All the nice test videos on YouTube just promote this feature with no deep analysis showing the work in a really complex project. So what experience do you have?

I'm seeing this same issue on my current project, which is incrediby expression-heavy. I was using MFR during the public beta the entire time and never experienced this issue, so is your project also very expression-heavy? I filed a bug and screen recording with the After Effects team and hopefully this issue will get fixed sooner than later.

MFR works beautifully on all of my other projects in the Comp panel, the Render Queue, and via Media Encoder. So yes, there's definitely an issue somewhere, but when it's working, MFR is pretty amazing.

Thank you for your answer! Yes, I have some expressions that come from using Duik (made an IK rig and animation of scorpion puppet) - it creates a lot of expressions to describe all that bones and controllers. But I'm experiencing the problems I spoke about before in all kinds of situations even with no expressions. One more thing - looks like disk cache (blue line on top) don't work completely with MFR ON - it newer appears, and as was mentioned with MFR OFF all is working good for the viewport

I've also noticed I'm not seeing the blue Disk Cache bar a lot, but I also have a lot of RAM. If you have a lot of RAM and you're not filling it up or making changes that break your cache, then you won't see it so much. I did, however, see it yesterday and thought "huh, I haven't seen that in awhile."

It's definitely worth filing a bug on UserVoice because the more people that post about the issue, the easier it is for the team to find reproducible scenarios, and when they are able to do that, they're able to fix issues more easily: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911311-after-effects

And one more thing I forgot to say - actually the rendering in preview mode works way fast with MFR OFF, why?
