My preview is distortion

Hello! I have a problem with my after effects. When I render mp4 it’s fine video, I mean no problem. When I try preview footage mp4 format image is distortion and black and white. If I put a photo on my composition preview it’s good.

My spec laptop HP Pavillion 15DK is:

Nvidia card geforce gtx 1650
Intel UHD Graphics 630
16GB Ram
Two SSD one with 1tb and second ssd is with 500gb

After effects is the latest version 2026.2.1

I try to clear memory cache, I make settings and nothing. I roll back version and nothing. The problem persistent

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the screenshot.

Are you working with screen recordings? Screen recorded media is often recorded with variable frame rate, which can cause issues sometimes. To fix this, try transcoding the media and then import in After Effects.

Hello! I search on chatgpt my problem. The solution is to convert mp4 into mov with media encoder. But after effects on version 25.0 was good, no problem with mp4 format. I attach a screenshot with my settings, I use this settings in past without problems. On this versions 26.0 and latest versions after effects not support mp4 I think

I return with another spec. Only with mp4 format show that. If I put mov, jpg or other formats working fine. Preview is good, but if I put mp4 is distortion, pixellation, desaturation.
