My text tool in after effects will not allow me to type text

I've been using After Effects for years.

I can normally type text but whenever I create a text layer After Effects does not let me add any text.

 

If I have a previously created piece of text, I can not over type it or edit it.

 

Seems to have been since about two versions ago.

 

Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix?

That's not ideal.

Have you tried running After Effects in Safe Mode? Does that help? Could you share a screen recording that shows the problem?

I’m using the latest version of AE
It is the same with any font
The text is completely on it’s own with no fx or animation etc
I’ve reset the paragraph and character settings
I’ve created a new AE file and composition

I presume from your response you are not aware of this issue?

Without any system info, details about the font, formatting, input language etc. this doesn't tell us anything. You need to be much more specific. Start by resetting the character and paragraph palettes and check whether your text has text animators, keyframes for opacity and time-remapping or similar.
